Risan is the oldest settlement in Boka Kotorska. The first information about the existence of a settlement in the area of ​​today’s Risno dates from the third century before Christ.

Venetian and Turkish forces, and then Austrian and French. All of them have left their mark on the rich history of this, today, small Montenegrin resort.

The most important tourist attractions of Risno are the Roman mosaics from the 3rd century BC, the Banja monastery, the church of St. George and the church of St. Peter and Paul. In the church dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, there is an extremely rich collection of icons, made by some of the famous masters of the so-called Boko Kotor school.
On the Gradina hill above Risno, there are the remains of an old Illyrian castle.
